Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, (1 Peter 3:13-15).
How many of us have given up on this verse? I’m not saying that we have given up on God or have lost faith, but if we’re not believing that Jesus Christ is our only hope, in essence, we have given up on this verse and it starts with our mindset, which affects our attitudes and actions.
One of the most difficult things is learning to love in the midst of adversity. Oh, it’s easy to lose our temper and become contrite in our soul. It’s easy to become frustrated and immediately voice or indignation. Since love is one of the fruits of the Spirit, we are incapable of loving others without the Holy Spirit’s help.
So how do we walk in this life making sure that the Holy Spirit has all authority in us? It starts with humility and recognizing that we are one step away from being that person or entity that we are despising because without Christ we are as lost as they are.
Once we realize that Christ loves them as much as he loves us, then and only then are we in the perfect position to be a loving instrument and deliver the hope that is in us.
I’m not saying it won’t be difficult. I’m also not saying that we cower or fail to take a stand. But anytime I think of the Bible as a whole, I don’t see Christ fighting his opposition to be crucified on the cross. I see forgiveness, love, redemption, and salvation; humbly accepting His part in God's plan.
So remember what God has given us in his word. Remember how he was with Daniel, Shadach, Mesach, and Abendigo while in Babylonian captivity. They understood they would have to live during difficult times, but their faith remained strong.
If anything, it’s in the midst of adversities is when we are more likely to see God work and be a part of his miraculous hand to reach and save a lost and dying world.
